Flying over rocks and mud on a bicycle was from the beginning an obsession for cyclists. Mountain bikes have undergone an incredible evolution, from the first models to the delivery of the safest machines built in the industry today. Mass production and downstream technology have kept prices stable, so most of us can afford a fun, durable and powerful bike without having to rent it.
Most of today’s $2,000 mountain bikes are perfect for newcomers to the sport who don’t want to bother with an entry-level bike, or for experienced riders who want to replace an old bike. Two thousand dollars might seem like a lot of money for a bike. However, it is the current market value of a bicycle intelligently designed and equipped to withstand the abuses and challenges of the modern mountain bike. In this context, the money is well spent.

- Lighter air fork instead of heavier with metal coil springs,
- Gearbox with smooth shifting 1×12 or 1×11,
- Tubeless wheels and tyres,
- Materials and frame geometry designed for more aggressive riding

- Pipettes for most models.
In short, if you make your choice for a new bike before you start digging, you will save a lot of money in the long run if you tend to powerlessly improve : against the desire to spend money on improvements to your bike.
What to look for in a mountain bike

Suitable for bicycles
It is absolutely necessary for your choice to adapt the bike to your body and proportions. A bike that seems too big or too small to you can’t be adjusted without compromising ride quality, so it’s never a good deal. Check the manufacturer’s instructions for size, or better yet, go to your local bike shop to put your leg on a pair of bikes and find out which features are right for you. All modern ATVs are becoming longer than their predecessors, contributing to a more stable ride in rough terrain, but these long, low models are not suitable for all riders. XC road bikes are more compact than their track counterparts.
Your bike should also be adapted to the terrain and riding style of your preference. If you have a race circuit and want to participate in organized races, you will probably want to ride the XC engine. If you want to swim with your friends on a local circuit, stop to jump in a session and do a jigsaw puzzle of obstacles on the circuit, a bike with a circuit is the best choice. Visit a few local walking trails, talk to people in local bike shops about what’s popular and ask a few local cyclists what they prefer, then weigh your results. Find out what you would like to do with your bike and lean towards the bike that will tick the boxes.
Frames, parts, wheels and tyres
Most bicycles in this price range have an aluminium frame. For those who prefer the elastic rolling quality of steel, there are several high quality steel wheels in this category. You can find carbon fiber tails for about 2 pieces, but you need a little more to hang them up completely.
A few years ago, 27.5 inch tyres and 650b rims were ready to conquer the ATV world. This trend was short-lived. Although noisy bikes are still available with a width of 27.5 mm, most modern bikes are designed to use 29 inches (2 to 2.4 inches wide) or 27.5 plus tires, also known as 27.5 plus tires. B+ tires with 650b rims, but 2.8-3 inch thicker tires.
Normal 29 and B+ tires have approximately the same diameter, so many bikes can be used with both tires and rims. B+ tyres have a larger circumference and better grip due to their extra weight. Drivers tend to prefer the 29 or 650B standard for their ability to climb easily, while many trailers sometimes upgrade to the B+ standard for better traction and comfort. The choice is completely subjective and many manufacturers test the market by offering their complete bikes in both tyre sizes.
The bikes are ready to use and are suitable for medium and high price bikes. This means that the rims can be mounted without tubes, but are usually supplied with mounted tubes. To switch to tubeless mode, you may need to purchase tape, valves and sealant, or install tubeless components that are included with your bike. Almost all motorcycles above the entry level models now have a tubeless option.
Most bikes above entry level do NOT have pedals. Pedals are such a personal and varied choice that manufacturers don’t have to worry about choosing them for you. XC riders prefer clipless pedals with pedals for efficient linkage and pedals, while trailers are roughly evenly spaced between clipless and flat pedals. Make sure you include in your budget a pair of pedals and suitable shoes if you don’t already have them.
Many motorcycles in this price range are equipped with a pipette, which is now considered mandatory equipment by many motorcyclists. If you’re one of those people, look for a bike with a pipette or a budget for a pipette that fits your frame. If you’re a drip catcher, the good news is that you can save a few grams and a bit of money by skipping this box on your next bike.
